Celebrating the New Zealand release of Hetty Kate’s ABC Jazz release, ‘Dim All The Lights’ – an exploration of the music of Peggy Lee, June Christy and Doris Day. Hetty and James Sherlock will be stopping in at Orange Studio after their performances as part of the Queenstown Jazz Festival for 2015. Join them for an intimate show on Wednesday or for the same show recorded and filmed on Thursday.
Hetty Kate is one of jazz luminary James Morrison’s favourite singers, has graced stages from New Zealand to New York, self released six popular jazz and swing albums, sings for the lindy-hop community across Europe, Asia and Australia and more recently has joined the ABC Jazz / Universal Music stable of vocalists. Now dividing her time between Europe and Melbourne, Hetty Kate was last in Christchurch performing with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra as the featured vocalist in the award winning ‘A to Z of Jazz’ concert. A spectacular journey through the history of jazz, conducted by Ben Northey, this was a sell out show at the Horncastle Arena in April this year.
Often compared to a young Peggy Lee or Doris Day, Hetty is known for her large repertoire of classics and curios from the Great American Songbook, as well as her keen sense of swing and fun. One of the busiest jazz vocalists in Melbourne, Hetty leads her own bands and often guests with big bands and other combos around the country. She has performed at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and the Sapporo Jazz Festival as well as many other festivals and events around the world.
